Momma’s Jalapeño Cilantro Black Bean Burgers

Spice up your black bean burgers with Momma’s Jalapeño Cilantro Hummus!
 
 
We topped our burger with a two ingredient jalapeño cilantro hummus spread (see recipe here!)
 

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Can        Black beans, drain, rinse and dry 

1/4             Red pepper, small dice 

1/4             Green pepper, small dice

1/2             Yellow Onion

1 Tsp         Garlic, minced

1/4             Momma’s Jalapeño Cilantro Hummus 

1/2 Cup     Bread Crumbs

1                 Egg (or 1 Tbsp of ground flax seeds mixed with 3 Tbsp water; chill for 15 minutes before use.)

                  Cilantro, to taste ; we added 1/4 Cup

 


Here’s what you’ll need to do:

1.Drain and rinse the black beans. Place them on paper towels and dry them. To keep your black bean burgers from falling apart, it’s important to make sure the black beans are dry.

2.Combine black beans, garlic, onion, egg or egg substitute, cilantro and Momma’s Jalapeño Cilantro Hummus in a food processor. Pulse until fully combined and a paste forms. Transfer to a mixing bowl.

3.Add bread crumbs, red peppers and green peppers to the black bean mixture. Mix thoroughly until fully combined. If your mixture is too wet, add a small amount of bread crumbs. 

4.Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Form into 4oz balls and use your hands to form the black bean mixture into patties. 

5.Wrap baking sheet with plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight. Chilled black bean burgers will hold their shape when they are placed on the grill.
 
6.Cook chilled black bean burgers on a grill until crispy on the outside.
